The Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) is the European Commissions main instrument for funding collaborative research and development. With a budget of over 50 billion, the programme will run for 7 years and was launched in 2007.

Complementary Programmes
Two initiatives running concurrently with FP7 are the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme (CIP) and the Euratom Framework Programme.
CIP is designed to complement FP7 by helping bring successful RTD proposals to the market.
Euratom will fund research and training for fusion energy, nuclear fission and radiation protection.
